1.
Q:
I have inserted the SMC and I have connected the unit but when I power everything up there is no audio or video?

A:
Be sure that the SMC has been inserted correctly. The metal contacts should be facing the control board, if the DV-36 is enclosed in a housing face away from the second memory module that holds a second SMC, or away from its empty slot.
OR
The power may have been connected before the SMC was inserted. Please remove the power, insert the SMC properly, and replace power. The unit is designed for "Auto Run" on power up and if there is no card when the power is connected then it won't function properly.

2.
Q:
I have the proper Smart Media Cards (128MB) but they don't work. Why?

A:
Occasionally 128 MB SMC's will not work properly with the DV-36 due to bit errors within the cards. MedeaWiz recommend using certified Smart Media Card's from MedeaWiz.

3.
Q:
How do I control the audio volume?

A:
The volume can be controlled by adjusting the amplifer that drives the speakers.

Q:
Do you update customer logo screen if requested?
A:
1) The update process is the same as it is for us to update firmware in ES6420.

2) However, you are required to submit a 720x480 bmp file or 720x576 for PAL video format to us, our engineer can compile it into a update file, then send back to customer or factory programmed for their application.

3) We would suggest only background picture to be submitted. This prohibits any picture problems. We recommend all start screen displays for DV-66 a resolution of X720*Y480 pixels and text X: 80~640th & Y: 30~450th.

2.
Q:
Can DV-66 connect with Plasma TV?
A:
Yes, DV66 can support Plasma TV up to resolution of 480p.

3.
Q:
What is the maximum storage capacity/Time of the MPEG-2 player
A:
Maximum storage time/capacity is subject to the availability of Compact Flash Card in the market place. The storage time of Compact Flash card is as follows:

    >> For MPEG-1 (VCD) format:
      4MB = 23 seconds, therefore:
      32MB = approx. 3 minutes
      64MB = approx. 6 minutes
      128MB = approx. 12 minutes
      256MB = approx. 24 minutes

    >> For MPEG-2 (DVD) format:
(basically, the data storage of MPEG-2 format is 3 ~4 times of MPEG-1 video format:)
      128MB = approx 3~ 4 minutes
      256MB = approx 6~ 8 minutes

4.
Q:
What is the maximum MPEG-2 bit rate the player can handle?
A:
MPEG-2 Bit rate for IBM microdrive application:
      CBR (consistent bit rate) = 8Mbps
      VBR (variable bit rate) = average 8Mbps / peak 9Mbps
    MPEG-2 Bit rate for Compact Flash card (40X or above) application:
      CBR = 5Mbps
      VBR = average 4.5Mbps / peak 5.1Mbps
    MPEG-1 refers to CBR only!!

5.
Q:
The Ultra II Series cards are thicker than the normal compact flash cards (5mm. instead of 3.3mm.) - will this be a problem?
A:
Both Compact Flash type l and type II can be used for the DV-66 player.

6.
Q:
What speed specification of CF card is required for DV66 to play MPEG-2 video clips smoothly?
A:
We recommend a minimum of 40X (Ultra high speed) or above for MPEG applications.
      ADDITIONAL NOTES:
      First, the MPEG-2 specification bit rate is between 3Mbps--8Mbps. (If you play the MPEG file in the power DVD or other software, you can open some OSD function to show this rate on the screen). For the DV-66, it is refer to the READ rate of the CF card:

1X speed = 150kbps

For example:
Normal speed 24X CF card = 24X * 150K = approx 3.60MB/s.
High-speed 40X CF card = 40X * 150K = approx 6.00MB/s.

Following the above formula, you may calculate the suitable Compact Flash card speed for your application.
For a normal resolution video footage, the average bit rate might be just about 3Mbps to 4Mbps and the peak bit rate might be just 5Mbps or 6Mbps. Then, a 40X Compact Flash card will be adequate.
For a high resolution video footage with numerous frame changes, the average bit rate 5Mbps to 6Mbps and the peak bit rate 8Mbps-9Mbps. A Compact Flash card of 50X ~ 60X is needed to play the video program smoothly.
For the DV-66 MPEG-2 player Compact Flash card programming, we have 3 recommendations for our customers:
1. Use 40X or above CF card for normal video program.
2. Edit the video program at the setting of average around bit rate 4Mbps~4.5Mbps.
3. Edit the video program at the setting of peak bit rate to be under 6Mbps.

Q:
VGA output
A:
To switch the AV and VGA output of DV66, please refer to the following methods:
1). External switch -- Use DV66F function selector
User could connect DV66 player with DV-66F function selector to change the DV66 default setting, see below:
DV66 Default Setting -- AV out / OSD off / Repeat mode
Functions options re-set by DV66F --
• VGA or AV (Composite video) output
• OSD On or Off
• Menu or Repeat mode
Regarding detailed spec information of DV-66F, please refer to DV66F manual: http://www.medeawiz.com/download/Userguides/DV66F_spec.pdf

2). Internal switch (DV66B on board selection) -- for switch the VGA/AV mode on DV66 board without DV-66F function selector
We had soldered a tact switch on the DV-66 PCB. User has to unscrew and open the DV66 plastic housing and you will see a tact switch near the U15 IC (see attached "DV66B AV_VGA on board selection.pdf" file about the location).

3). Command modification -- RS232 TTL signal
reference: DV66 RS232 TTL interface difinition.pdf"
you also could switch the AV/VGA mode by modify the command of RS232 TTL signal, you could refer to the pdf file name "DV66 RS232 TTL interface definition" we offered on 3/1/2004, the RS232 command for VGA/Video is as below:

RS232 Code (Decimal) - 227
RS232 Code (Hex) - E3
IR Key code - 27
Content - VGA/Video
